John Deere Pricing

My Uncle recently moved back from spending 60 years in Alaska. Hes looking for a tractor with a front snow blower and mower deck. I took him to the Kubota dealership one Sunday when he stopped by for a visit. He contacted me today with John Deere prices he had gotten today.
JD 21 hp 4x4 diesel front blower , mower deck, wheel weights-$12,000
JD 21 hp 4x4 gas, same options- $11,000
JD 24 hp 4x2 gas, same options - $7000.
I just tried to email the dealer in New Hampshire about 15 miles from me. But their email has issues. So I'll call them tomorrow for a quote. Does anyone think Kubota can come in close or below the JD pricing ?

Uncle is 83 yrs old. Very mentally with it. But I dought he has the model #'s.
I'm sure he wrote down sizes, options and pricing to compare.

I guess it all depends. I just got quotes from various dealers and the kubota was significantly less than JD. Another fellow in the area got quotes and reported on another forum that the JD price was lower???
Go figure. I guess it depends on what the dealer wants to get rid of.

If your uncle is financing, JD price increases vs cash. Kubota is the same on the small tractors, $200 off for cash on the larger ones.

I had a 1996 JD 425 I bought used in 2002.
Guessing I could have just about bought that for $11k new with a 2-stage blower in 1996....but I did have MMM and other goodies.

I’ve also priced some JD online recently to check....much more than Kubota.

Yeah, model numbers would be something want check on, for your uncle’s sake.

The guy who works for me claims at local and state fairs he checks prices and JD is always more then Kubota.
Uncle has more dough then most and the first dollar he ever earned. He'd be paying cash. House, truck, rv , nothing financed wrote a check for all. His brother ran a dairy farm and had everything JD and still does even though he's retired also. So hes telling him of course buy JD. But he used a friends Kubota in Alaska and seen mine. So he certainly open to buying orange.

I'm calling the dealer tomorrow to see what they tell me.

I am guessing he thinks after Alaska Maine winters will be a piece of cake, but if he is thinking front mount snowblower, a cab would sure be nice. Whole different breed of cat if you want a factory cab. B2650 is nice for snowblowing and mowing.....

I've had real good luck with JD & Kubota. I don't think he can go wrong either way. Kubota might be a little cheaper depending on what he's actually looking at.

By the $$ numbers and the Gas option he's looking at a lawn tractors not a full size tractors.

I can't see any of the models with 21hp though. And I can't use the builder to get one that has a blower at around $11K - they look like they should be cheaper than that. Most of those mowers are made by MTD apparently, certainly they're not made by John Deere. Deere is good equipment, but make sure your uncle knows that he's buying a generic machine painted green, not a real Deere (which are mostly only the bigger tractors)

Anyway, assuming it's a mower, then big differences from a Kubota BX would be:
- 3ph for lifting and shifting
- PTO for driving implements - maybe a chipper? Maybe a tiller?
- The Deere looks to have a 48 or 54 inch deck. Kubota can have 60 inch. I'd expect the Kubota deck to be heavier duty than a lawn tractor
- Hydraulics to drive a front end loader. For an older guy a front end loader is magic - lets you do all sorts of stuff that you used to do by hand with a shovel, and with some chain hooks on it lets you pull, lift, drag stuff
- With quick attach, you can put forks on the front, lets you stack stuff in your garage. A guy moving from a larger property to a smaller closer in property will have stuff that needs stacking
- I'd guess the snow blower would be better, and a hydraulic adjustable front blade might be all you need depending on where he's located. Again quick attach.....

In short, it's not apples for apples. Get him on a Kubota, he might love it. But if he really wants a lawn tractor, there's nothing at all wrong with the Deere's. They'll be a lot cheaper than a BX.

EDIT: Looked a bit further. It's a bit murky who makes what, it's possible Deere do make their lawn tractors, but they use a Kawasaki motor. Either way, I'd be pretty clear that a lawn tractor is a very different machine than a sub-compact tractor (SCUT) - Deere make some good SCUTs, Kubota is generally seen as the market leader.

I don't know what JD unit has the identified HP. I bought a 720 for my dad a few years back, and I know with the mower and blower the price was in the same range. Had the Kawi 29 hp engine.
Nice unit, but for that price the 1025r is not too much more $$$

I called MB tractor in Ossipee NH close to me and they quoted me $12,650. for the unit above. I asked the guy if he could come in at $12,000. we'd buy in NH to save the sales tax. He said there wasn't enough meat on the bone to do the $12,000 price.

I got retail pricing from them on a L2501 with implements so I went to Wallingford’s in Auburn and was treated much better. That is a low end unit though so maybe not as much room. I agree that a BX would be a better choice. I also have a X530 JD with a 26 hp Kawi in it, 2011 vintage, and a 47” snowblower works ok on it, but I honestly think it’s too much for the tractor in this neck of the woods. I’m in Standish near the lake btw. I’m glad I got my
L2501 and rear blower just before those 2 monster storms last March. My JD might not have handled it, but it’s still a fine mower.
For running a snowblower I would absolutely go diesel and shaft drive. Just my 2 pennies

His $12,000. price was from Wallingfords. With the 5.5% sales tax $660. dollars. The price would be be same as MB tractor in Conway. He lives in Minot so he'll probley just get it at at Wallingfords. I did send Wescotts a email for a quote just for the heck of it. So I'll see what they say. I do know they have been bought by MB also but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm happy he's leaning towards a bigger model then the GR.
And he said he'd been to the JD dealer the comparable tractor/implement package cost more.

Excellent decision. Much more versatile machine, and I'd expect it to be way more durable. Of course, now you're into territory everyone has an opinion on - do you need a drive over deck, do you need quick attach bucket (SSQA), do you need the backhoe. 54 inch or 60 inch mower (then some will say you need a rear mount mower not a mid-mount mower). Of course, you can just read a few historical threads and you'll already know how the conversation is going to go.

Excellent choice. I’m sure he’ll be happier with that and it will outlast him easily given basic maintenance. I’m not so sure a gas job would.
Wescott’s was the MB location where I was quoted list price. I was hoping to buy closer to home. I took their quote to Wallingford’s and told them it was ridiculous and I’d buy from them for 10%.

Call me skeptical, but that sounds really low. I’m taking delivery of a BX2380 tomorrow with all the same, granted, I’m running the 55” HD blower, the 60” non drive over deck, and the SSQR bucket with third function installed. But our price ended up at $22k.

Not trying to say he’s getting the price wrong, but cheapest setup you can build with all that is $20,800 on the Kubota site.

He’s either getting a smoking deal, or something is up. You sure that’s with tax? Does he have a build sheet quote you can look at? I’m attaching ours just for reference.
