Well it didnt rain so far today and yesterday either, at least on the ridge it didnt rain. So I took the BX over the hill in the orchard, cause grass was ,, well really HIGH .I mowed it and only made a few ruts for any water to run off. But the interesting thing is. I didnt have the tractor put away before a flock of turkeys was picking through everything I had just cut. Maybe seeds, maybe bugs, maybe ticsI dont know but they were having afield day. Funny even the deer will stand and watch me mow and then move in to where I just cut, but if I stop they are gonzo

Were lacking rain here in southern Maine.
My sister's raspberry bed has been producing for two weeks in this hot weather. But another week of no rain she said there all done.
My 'b' is corn prices. I stopped at the armish market to get four ears. .95 cents a ear. Ridiculous. Yes I bought four and told Abner 'it's like you got a gun to my back'..he responded its fresh. My buddy just stopped to drop off four ears from the Mennonite market(same savior, different garden) .75cents a ear. The local chain supermarket has Virginia corn three for a buck $1. My girlfriend bought some last week and it was fantastic.
But we need rain.

The deer just watch me on the property. If I notice them, they hide, but don't really go very far. 20 minutes later they will be right back out watching again 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

But they don't get bothered either.

It rained in my part of PA. Even had a flood watch in the county. We were in Costco in Lancaster this afternoon and a downpour came through. Sounded like someone was driving a train on the roof.

Rained all day here in Upstate NY, boy did we need it. Good thing I mowed yesterday.
Wife, 3YO grandson, and I were out for a while in the light rain picking blueberries and blackberries. YUM.

We must getting everyone's portion in NW Wisconsin. Rainiest summer in 10 plus years.

Haven't gone 2 days straight without storms. Until this week. Finally, the rain is calming down. No rain yesterday, no rain today, no rain on the forecast tomorrow. Maybe I can mow tomorrow. But the ground is still saturated. I'm talking Noah and the Ark heavy rain.

My trails can't be mowed due to mud. Ground is saturated. Trees falling with their rootballs simply coming out of the ground. Nothing but mud. Too wet.

Count your blessings.

We got double the 30-year average in July (30 yr-4.05"; 2025-8.76"). Yet that is an average of all the areas. Some of our areas recorded 10 inches of rain in a three hour time period during the month of July. Lots of spotty heavy downpours along with widespread rain.

Looking at the yearly report, both April and July we received about double the normal amount rainfall. All the other months we received less than average with February we received on average less than an inch (normal is 2.5").

Interesting year with rain and I wonder what the totals will look like at the end of it. I believe we average around 38" of rain, but have had years with just over 60". Plus, this doesn't take into account those areas that get hammered by the spot thunderstorms.

So far, our rainfall in this region of NW WI has overall been dry to average depending on the month the year. L. Superior has been pushing the heavy flooding rains inland. Problem is when it rains it rains heavy. Then nothing for couple or more weeks. June turned out to be average thanks to heavier rain during the last week. July, above average due to heavy rains the 3rd week. Maybe a quick sunny shower on some days all other weeks. The good. No mossies. The bad. Banner year for wood ticks. Checked the soil moisture in the veggie beds yesterday. Meter read dry down to ~6inch/15cm. Next few inches barely read moist. Rainwater barrels are running low. Need a solid 0.5" to fill the ~300 gallons.

Again another windless summer. Not sure if due to Canadian wildfires. Seems to result in a a low pressure region over the fire areas and L. Superior high pressure. Results. The light NW breezes have pushed the smoky air into the region. NW are usually rare in the summer. 3rd day in a row with AQI over 150. IRRC, either last Monday or Tuesday awoke to AQI of 17. By 1700 it was above 150. Changes rapidly. Bit like the air temp. Huge swings in daily highs this year. Overall just a bit above the NWS moving 30 year average.

Last time it rained around here was back in April. The last couple weeks we've had several dry thunderstorms come through...no rain but they started some wildland fires.

I have to irrigate the trees around my house for 6 hours every night to keep them alive. I also keep a basin there that the irrigation system keeps full of water. All sorts of wildlife come to drink. A couple days ago this beautiful buck antelope came to the water and to stand in the shade for a bit.
