Hello everyone! I'm looking at getting a hydraulic pole tamper, most likely the Greenlee 60" tamper. I am planning on running it on my Kubota L4310, preferably through the ports on the front loader. My question has to do with adaptability. The tamper says it requires 4-6 gpm flow and opperates at 1000-2000 psi. I can find on TractorData that the tractor hydraulic system supplies 7.8 gpm and I can't find anywhere what the pressure of the system is.

Would my setup work? Am I going to need some sort of flow/pressure control, what kind? I assume pressure is related to engine rpm, is that right? I appreciate any help in advance!

Pressure is regulated by the relief valve in the range of 2200PSI and does not depend on engine RPM.
RPM effects flow and flow is also dependent on size of piping, connectors, and valve.

So, I just want to be sure before I pull the trigger on a $1500 tamper that it's going to work. I have a hydraulic system that supplies 7.8 gpm at 2200 psi and the tamper requires 4-6 gpm and operates at 1000-2000 psi.

Is this over supply and pressure going to adversely affect the tractor hydraulics or the tamper in any way? Should I get some sort of control box that regulates and monitors flow and pressure? Or am I overthinking all of this?

Sorry for all the questions but my tractor is my favorite tool and would want anything to happen to it :)

Thanks again!

The PSI's are going to be in range and should not pose an issue.
The flow should be good too, over flow is almost never an issue, under flow is!
So as far as I can tell you shouldn't have any problems running it.
You next problem is to find a good valve to run it. ;)

Thanks for your help! I went ahead and purchased the tamper, we'll see how it works soon.

I use an old pole tamp from work here and it works great. They say over-pressure will make the seals leak, but mine has been going for 15 years with no issue. It really moves fast and better than they do at work on the trucks

I work for an Electric utility and got an old one that was heading to junk because the pipe got bent near the hose end. all cosmetic,
