I've got an L1500 that is losing trans oil and gaining crankcase oil, leading me to believe that the hyd. oil pump is leaking at the seal. The L1500 is similar to the L175. The WSM for the L175 lists the number for the pump, but has no breakdown of it. The WSM for the L185 has a breakdown for the hyd pump and shared the PN for the oil pump with the L175 prior to the first SN break; the L175 had no SN break in the WSM that I used.

So I ordered the seal from the L185 pump prior to the first SN break and it doesn't fit.

My question is: Can I just go to Napa and get a seal there based on the dimensions, or does the hyd. pump need a special high pressure seal?

I have three seal numbers for the l185. I ordered all three to get one that fit...
First one should have been correct but was not so I ordered the other two.

I think they were all serial number breaks

I can see if I can locate the numbers if you want

That's probably the next step. Looking at the seal that didn't fit vs. the Napa one, there's 3 lips instead of 1. Thanks for the offer of the numbers, but I can find them.

To answer the question "are hydraulic pump seals different than regular seals"

Yes they are different, they are either solid seals or they have multiple lips that keep the seal from folding/rolling and failing.

Does your offer still stand Russell? I can find 3 SN breaks for the pump, but only one number for the seal.

According to the Stavros website, the L1500 takes the same pump as the L245, L2000, and L2201. That gives me one or 2 more options to try.

Kubota parts are almost always reverse compatible, that is newer better designed seals will fit in older pumps, so you almost always want the newest Part Number.

Old obsolete P/N's 09500-14287, 67211-76190

New P/N 31381-76190

Yes I will look for the numbers and get back to here. In my case at least the first seal would not fit into the recess in the pump. Don't recall if both of the next two fit or only one.

Give me a couple of hours.

No intent to hijack your thread, but I discovered what North Idaho Wolfman said about reverse compatible part numbers...

I need a "steering cap", the hub cap that goes over the nut that holds the steering wheel on for an L4240. Colemans had the part as list in the parts list, but that was the only number they had. The part was like $42, I refused to take it. They also didn't have the little rubber "J" hook for a breather for that tractor. You had to buy the J hook that came with the threaded in cap, all one item, $14.

While talking to Wolfman he gave me a number that was an update for the steering hub. I called Colemans, gave them the number and picked it up the next day for $19. Also, order the J hook for an L2050 (I think it was) and it was $5...just the hook!

I don't know where North Idaho Wolfman gets all that information, but I pay him extra for his help!!:D:D

When I got out to my truck, I realized that the one from the L245 was the same as the L185 # I had. Guess I should have checked that sooner. I've got the other 2 #'s on order. They should be here by the weekend.

No worries on the hijack D2.

1 of the 3 is smaller, so I'm cautiously confident that it will work. Looks like I'll finally get around to it this weekend. When I pulled the pump out the gear had grease on it. I've got general purpose, white lithium, and JD corn head lube. Any of these appropriate? Anything else?

The 3227-36230 seal was the ticket. Thanks again Russell.

Great, glad it worked out for you.
The pictures in the illustrated parts list were misleading. The alternative part numbers are in a smaller view of the pump and the pump is viewed from the non drive end.
