My dad sent this to me yesterday. Last day of his hunt in WY he took a 5x5 at 60 yards (.300 wm)
As the guides were working on the animal a grizz came within 20 yards. Guide fired a shot to send it on it's way. The bear stopped and turned around again at 40 yards. Second guide sent another shot. The bear left after that one.
He said it all happened so fast that there was no time to be scared.

Nice Elk! Congrats to dad too. What's the cost on a guided hunt like that?

I don't know for certain but I believe he mentioned it being in the 5K range...guided/horseback/spike camp...maybe they charged more for the grizz encounter?
This was his 5th attempt for a bull elk.

The high country is so dry that this big boy decided to come in for a drink several times over the last week or so. He also brought his little brother a couple times, but we only had the camera handy for this shot. Range, 18 feet, through the screen on the window over the kitchen sink. He drank...

That looks like some great eating right there…..
Grew up on venison. If we couldn't catch it, kill it, or steal it, we didn't have it. I dressed more than one by myself. One of the worst conflicts I ever had with my stepfather was knowing how much venison was in the freezer (because I butchered and wrapped every piece of it) and deciding I didn't want to go hunting one morning. Probably second to the one where he found out I had a book in my coat when we were out hunting the day before.
