hi. I have a bx22, 950 hours. because of leaks dealer changed all hydraulic lines last february. last week my hydraulics stopped working and I noticed hydraulic fluid dipstick dry again. refilled and everything was fine. yesterday I snowblowed my driveway and had no problems until I tried to blow a small patch of packed snow/ice. couldn't do it, so backed off. but shortly after I noticed I had reduced power in low (turtle) gear. tractor moves, but a single (slow) speed. there's no speed control in the HST pedal. but tractor does seem to work normally in high (rabbit) gear. is this like a linkage problem or transmission problem? anything I can check myself? (I'm changing dealers...)

First thing I would work on is where is the oil going/leaking?

Working the tractor with low oil levels in an HST is extremely harmful to it.
I think you looking at more than a linkage issue.

"I think you looking at more than a linkage issue."

yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. although it did work perfectly fine for several hours after I topped it off.

as to where the fluid is leaking, I parked the tractor yesterday over snow, ran it, and haven't seen any drips as of yet. wouldn't be surprised if the dealer never filled it properly after the repair. have had other issues with them...

Tooljunkie and joeyt,
On the BX22 never a chance of the hydraulic ending up in the motor oil as the pump is mounted and run from the rear end, so any internal shaft seal leak would just end up back in the sump.

thanks. fluid levels all good. hst fluid on dipstick looks clean and clear but haven't pulled the filter yet. talked to two dealers today who hadn't seen this problem before--where tractor won't accelerate in low gear but seems fine in high gear. will have to bring it in for service.

would like to get through the winter, so am tempted to snowblow in high gear. but one of the dealers said there may be something torn up inside the transmission so they wouldn't recommend it.
