Hello,

I have a Kubota diesel TG1860 54" belly mower that I bought new in May 2000. It now has nearly 800 hours on it, I'm averaging 32/hrs per year. The diesel engine still runs great, and everything remains solid. I mow 2.5 acres in under 2 hours with no trouble. My Biggest concern is the top speed 7 MPH is too slow. I mostly stand on the gas pedal while often wishing for more speed. I know when to not outrun the blade's cutting capabilities.

I've been thinking about buying a zero-turn to gain travel speed and ultimately decrease my time in the seat.

Is there any way to make adjustments to increase the travel speed 10% or 20%? This has a hydrostatic transmission, and I see no obvious way to increase the travel speed.

The only way I can see is to increase the diameter of the rear tires making sure you still have fender clearance. You would then have to somehow re-level the mower deck. Personally I would sell it and purchase a zero turn for faster speed.

You're probably right. A few years ago, I had a pair of rear tires picked out on Amazon that were a couple inches larger diameter than what's on it now. I have fender clearance and would have to re-balance the deck. They were a few hundred dollars, so I didn't think the little increase was worth it.
Have my eyes on zero-turn mowers. May make the move this spring.
