How often do you have to re-torque rear hubs?

B7500 when I got this tractor both hubs weren't properly tightened and one was not even pinned. I have corrected this and per WSM drove the tractor around some after tightening, then re-torqued.

Used tractor maybe 10 hours after that and when it was down for it's massive maintenance this last couple weeks, I noted the hubs were again loose. I re-torqued again. I have to use a cheater bar on a half-inch socket drive as I am not strong enough to get them tight without the leverage. I do have a torque wrench but I would have to use a cheater on it, which would invalidate any torque reading, so I am just tightening as tight as I can.

I still seem to have a bit of play on the right side and I am concerned that I am going to break the bolt if I push it much further.

How often and how tight do you guys have to get these? Do yours get loose frequently? I am concerned that the hubs may have wallered out due to running with them loose by previous owner. These puppies are expensive at $135 apiece, plus hardware (bolts and blocks).

Thanks

Mine came loose once after I moved the rear wheel spacing. I re-tightened them with an impact wrench and have not had any problem since.

Hmm, maybe I should pull the wheels and hit it with the impact. I have been lazy just getting at it with the wheels on.

How hard did you hit them with the impact?

When you torque lug nuts, they usually list two different torque specs. One wet, the other dry. Usually dry is 10 to 20 ft/lbs higher then wet depending on the stud size. If they list only one torque number, then spray the studs with some penetrating oil, and then torque.

Also a quick easy way to keep track and to know if you need to torque the tires again. Use a paint marker, run a line down the side of the lug nut onto the rim. Then if the lines don't line up later on, you know you have to tighten them ;) Use a different color each time you mark a lug nut, so you don't get confused with an old mark ;)

I am referring to hubs torque to the axle, no mention of lug nuts. Thanks for the info on wet v dry torque though.

The torque spec in the FSM is 91 to 108 ft/lb. I probably went even a bit tighter than that with the impact, maybe 120?

OKAY!

Took the wheels off, removed both hubs, cleaned them up, put em back on and impact gun at highest setting = all better.

Thanks again!!

Keep us updated if that works. Mine come loose a lot also but my rear tires are loading so pulling them off is going to be a pain.
