Is the hour meter strictly based on time? Or with the newer digital meters are they based on a calculation of time and engine RPM.? If I run my tractor at a high RPM will the hour meter tick faster ?

Not necessarily so for all models. According to the operator's manual, our B7200 records time at rated engine RPM. You can run it for quite a while at less than rated RPM before you finally rack up one hour of hourmeter time.

It used to be that tractor hour meters recorded time based upon rpm. An hour of time was recorded if the tractor was operated for one hour at the rated pto spead. If run at less than rated spead then it would take longer to add an hour. Now most all hour meters just record the time based upon how long they run. If you leave your key on and tractor not running it will still record time. If you let your tractor sit around just idling it will rack up a lot of hours.

My buddy has a B2601 that he purchased a couple days ago and it shows 18 hours of use already. He has definitely not spent that kind of time in the chair. I have a B2650 that I have had a year now and shows only 36 hours. I run the radio in my tractor without the engine running all the time and blowing snow at PTO RPM so I would expect my meter to be much higher. We are just trying to figure out why his meter is so high.
