help removing fenders on BX

I'm replacing a failed hyd line for the power steering on my BX1800 and all is going well but I can't figure out how to remove the "control lever grips" the rubber caps on top of the controls. They are to wide to slip thru the fender slots so I assume they must come off.
Any suggestions?

You should be able to just pull them off --- I think!!

I get them off by slipping a adjustable wrench onto the lever below the grip and pulling upward.

You can also use an air nozzle with a small tip and blow air up inside the grip to help loosen or remove it.
