I talked to both Walmart and the truck driver. Walmart stated he was swapping out an ice machine and this was the easiest way to do it. Yep, let's make it easier for the truck driver and it shouldn't be too incontinent for their handicapped customers. Truck driver asked if I was aware he was actually in a loading zone?????

What's the gripe? there was ample parking? And let's face it, Most of those spots go unused, or are used by people that dont really need them.

Ample parking? In the picture, there is just one accessible spot still available, which would not be ample at the Walmarts near me. There are also no curb cuts visible (the truck may be blocking those as well), so a wheelchair user lucky enough to get that last spot probably has to go around the front of the truck, out into the traffic lane, to get to the door.

I have no doubt that you see many unused accessible parking spots, but please know that many folks who need those spots often find none available. And that is indeed because they're frequently used by people who shouldn't park there. (Though it's also true that a lot of disabilities are not apparent--someone who appears able-bodied may indeed have a good reason to have a disability license plate or placard.)

I see a lot of unused handicap parking, but the law is the law. I try hard to humiliate people who park in handicap spaces without a plate or placard.
My neighbor has a sticker on her car that says
"You can have my handicap parking space if you take my MS with it"

Hopefully you jest, if not, quite possibly your part of the problem. A lot of people think handicap parking means park here if your in a hurry, it's raining or you won't be long. It's not unusual to find people using them to park their shopping carts. It is not unusual at all to not be able to find a handicap spot and I speak from experience. These new giant trucks crowd the spots to make some almost unusable.

Cities near me have codes requiring a percentage of parking spaces to be marked as Handicapped Reserved.

At the local Farm and Home Store (which use to be a Wal-Mart) there are 10 spots right next to the doors. In 15 years I have never seen them all full at one time, maybe 3 or 4 vehicles at most.

Sometimes city parking codes are ridiculous, and after a time of seeing what's required, a business should not be required to set aside a space that is not used.

I always park as far from the front door as possible, within reason, just to get some exercise. For those with handicaps, they don't need me causing them grief.

On the other hand when I see a vehicle in a Reserved Spot and no tag on the windshield, I pull out my cell phone and call the local police to notify them. They often have a vehicle in any big parking lot just looking for license plates that are expired anyways.

Got to pay for the new police station, and besides the best way to get someone's attention is to grab their wallet!
