I’m buying a grapple for my L4701. it won’t do much digging might sift some lava rocks but primary use will be yard debris and a few logs. It will move a lot of long light palm fronds 15 footers or more so I think wider is better but I really won’t need that heavy of a unit and question if I need dual cylinder or one. Trees usually won’t be that big I’ll cut them down.

any tips on Brand, size, overall weight and flow rates. I just installed Summit hydraulics third function auxiliary controls if that matters. While I haven’t used it yet the install on this kit is spot on not complex and fit is good.

Investigste the varous styles and decide which is best for your usage.

Flow rates are a non-issue.

I have a double lid grapple on an L3901. I dont like the out of sync movement of the lids but it does accomodate unequal diameter material

For an L4701 60" would be about right but watch the weight.

There are lots of good suppliers. I bought from MTL and would do it again. Given a do-over this would be my choice. They must be popular because they are always sold out.

I lived on Oahu for more than two decades and there were many things I would have liked to have bought but shipping to Hawaii was often prohibitively expensive. You might want to take a look and see what Bacon Universal has or can get. Shipping might be a whole let less if they're bringing in containers of stuff. Perhaps there are some implement manufacturers in Hawaii.

One of the best implement sellers out there is Good Works Tractor Co. Take a look at what they have and rest assured that Courtney is a class act and will give good advice, even if you buy from someone else.

I've had an Everything Attachments Wicked 60 grapple for a few years and it's great for moving rocks or logs, and also for digging, and I would put it up against any grapple out there in terms of strength and durability, but it's not the best choice when it comes to moving big piles of brush and such. I would suggest a 60" wide grapple and something under 400lb. Lots of good companies out there such as EA, Homestead, IronCraft, Land Pride, Catawba etc.

I would say that few buy a grapple and report back that they wish they'd bought something else. I've owned a Land Pride and an EA and both worked.

Thanks I’ll see what they have for me on the grapple. And I needed to know if there was enough flow to make them work I read about complaints in this area probably on smaller tractors.

The new world order and Hawaii is something else when it comes to equipment. Limited options much higher prices and long delays getting anything. Im filling a shipping container so it’s in my favor to get everything in motion that I can here..

We just installed. New 12 ply tires on it. Man is that an event. I will probably make a post about this to scare anyone with have a brain from ever doing that again.

I was thinking 60” wide as well since im really not going to use is for digging lighter is better. I hope? I utilize tools to there fullest functions. Ok I can flat work something hard. But im a SMOOTH OPERATOR hopefully you old farts sung that in your head when you read it). I tend to push the limits without breaking a lot of stuff. Thanks for the input.

I have the EA 55" wicked grapple. The thing has been awesome. Yet, any grapple is better than no grapple. I have used mine to move logs, brush, garbage, old equipment, and tear down buildings.

The only flow issue you might have is a wide open third function might slam the lid open and closed. Easily solved with a restrictor fitting.

60" wide is plenty IMO. I have used a MTL RK5 on my John Deere for years and it served me well but there were times I wished I had a narrower single lid like the EA 55 design. I think that design would also lend well for raking up roots which I could have really used for what I was doing.

MTL is often showing out of stock and they don't answer their phone or respond to emails. I'm not sure I would ever do business with them again.

I recently purchased a 48" Iron Craft economy grapple for my Kubota and had immediate buyers remorse. It only had two teeth on front and the first bunch of lightweight debris I tried to pick up all fell out the front of it. They make another design that has teeth all the way across and is designed more like the EA. I originally intended to buy that design but I think it would have required a stand to park it so I bought the flat bottom type.

It's a pity that EA doesn't have a built in stand, but it's such an easy thing to add after the fact. It took me an hour or so to cut up some scrap material, drill some holes, weld everything up and paint it. I didn't want the stand to interfere with normal operation so I made it removable. Works great and makes it much easier to get the grapple on and off the tractor.
