I am trying to chase down hard cold-weather starting on my BX 2670. I have seen a YouTube video re this condition being caused, on larger Kubotas, by a failed glowplug relay.

Does the BX 2670 have a glow plug relay? If so, where is it? And if so, what is its P/N? I didn't see one in the Messicks parts diagram. Thanks.

Your BX does not have a Glow Plug relay, power goes from the key switch straight to the glow plugs.

Use a volt meter or test light to see if you have battery voltage at your glow plugs with key switch turned to Glow position. If the glow light illuminates on the dash there should be power to plugs.

To test your glow plugs, take the 7mm nut off of each one and remove the strap across their tops. Using an ohms meter, touch red lead to the stud and the black lead to the threaded part that screws into the cylinder head. Reading should be approx .9 ohms on each plug.

How long since you replaced your fuel filters?

Actually, I got the tractor in November, before the cold weather really hit. But even then, it would have to crank for 20 seconds or so to fire up. I see videos of these tractors, that will start almost instantaneously. Mine has not done that.

I would recommend changing both filters and treating fuel with BG DFC Plus or Power Service (white bottle).

How long do you energize the glow plugs before starting?

Just as a point of reference: With my B2320 it would take about 10 seconds of glow plugs on in the summer and warmer days; 15 seconds when it got around freezing and a little below; 20 seconds when in the low 20's (F); and about 30 seconds when when it got into the teens (F) and below... and then it would run a little rough for 10-20 seconds after starting. Those numbers were basically what the dealer had told me, and they were proven to be correct. Anything less would require excess cranking (hard on the starter).

I agree 100%.........I have 3 Kubotas - ALL of them, I glow the plugs, even once warm! On the B7100 - dead of summer, I still glow them 10 seconds, I have found if I glow just a few, most times it will not start or belches a lot of smoke, once hot- I still glow it for about 3 seconds - On my BX, I glow the plugs based on the temps too. The other day it was about 18F and I glowed it a rather long time, 30 seconds (I actually counted!) and it fired right up, no smoke, no rattle.....just purred along. Some guys here have kubotas that will start without glowing the plugs - each of us learn a nuance of our machines, what it needs and does not need to get the job done. But I have to agree - the plugs are there to build heat necessary to get it starting, so why not use them?;):)

My 2370 starts immediately in almost all temps, although it's in a heated garage (40 degrees) in the winter. If yours has to crank 20 seconds in November, you definitely have issues with the glow plug system.
