I have been using a piece of wire to jumper the burned out indicator on my B7200 for at least a decade and no issues. Unlike a switch it is hard to forget to turn it offCan I replace my glow plug indicator with a switch on a b7100HST old?
The glow plug indicator/resistor quit working. I purchased a new one, installed it and when i tried it, it shorted out. burned the main wire from the starter, burned the main 9 wire plug and broke my volt meter. I removed the new indicator and bench tested it to find out that is was defected and the post must be touching the frame of the indicator. I got continuity from the post to the entire part. I am in the process of fixing all the damage. the vendor refunded my money and sent me a new one at no charge. I am going to bench test before I install the new one, but it is a pain to install. just thought that putting a switch would be easier. ps. know where I can get a replacement 9 pin connector? The indicator is also a resistor so I would not replace it with a switch.
You can wire the glow plugs with a switch but the indicator should be after the switch or you will start to burn out glow plugs.
Tell us what your problem is and we can make suggestions on fixing the problem not butchering your wiring.
The glow plugs get power during cranking also, but the the starter is dropping the voltage, not the indicator which is bypassed during cranking.
