Hello all, first post here, but I think I have already indentified my problem by searching through a few old threads. Just thought I would run it by you for good measure. First off, I have 2001 L4310D with a GST that I bought used. It has about 800 hours on it, of which I have put on about 400.

My battery is constantly dying on me, I've replaced all the wires & terminal connectors and had the battery tested. It will take a charge just fine but after a few days in the tractor it gets to a point where it can't crank the engine over.

Additionally my Glow Plug indicator stays on for most of the time that I am running the tractor, it will turn off now and again. But for the most part it stays on. When I turn the key on it will usually just stay on. This leads me to believe that my glow plugs are staying on all the time and draining my battery down.

So the questions are, Why would the plugs stay on? Do you think they need to be replaced?

Thanks in Advance, Mike:)

Ordered up the Glow Plug Relay today, should be here by the end of the week. At about $26 I wanted to just go with that for now. The Glow Plugs themselves are about $25 a piece:eek: so those will have to wait a bit. After this I need get the Ballast straightened out in my rear tires, and now I want to paint the thing.:D

I had a glow plug light coming on and staying on, then go on and off, it was the controller, and the tech said that most of the time that is what the problem is. I could hear it drag the engine down when it came on while running, so it is a drain on the battery if it stays on all the time.

Interesting, looks like we have similar models. Thanks for the feedback:)

MD4310GST,

I had the same issues with my L35 as SAM427 described and as you described in your first post. I found it was the glowplug controller that was bad and not the relay. Because I didn't have time to run down a new controller and had a scrap push-button switch, I hooked the ground side of my glowplug relay up to the push-button switch and just heat the glowplugs up manually. I'll install a new relay soon and put it back right.

So I changed out the Relay today and no change. So I suppose it's now the Glow Plugs or the Controller. Anyone have a part # for the Controller?

Thanks.

It's most likely the controller, check with your dealer and get the right one for your model. It cost around $70 for mine, mine has a 34hp 3 cylinder in it.

I finally got around to ordering the Controller. Is it located in the same area as the Relay?

Thanks again for the help;)

Mine was located on the right hand side of the dash panel. You will have to take the lower cover off for sure, and maybe the dash will have to come out. I was lucky enough that I could pull the panel back out of the way enough to replace it without pulling the dash.

On my L35, the relay and controller are side-by-side. The controller is the larger of the two.

Looks like the Controller solved the issue. I ran the Tractor for about an Hour and a Half this afternoon and the Glow Plug light never came on. Glad I got that resolved, jumping it every time was getting old.

Thanks to all for your help, even on something that was relaitively simple I learned some good things. I'll raise a pint to you all, cheers.:)

Re: Glow Plug issue

I have replaced my glow plug controller and relay on my L2900. Now the dash light comes on every time, but it goes off immediately, only on for a second or two. Is there a timer ?
