i am having my morning coffee contemplating my next steps for prepping material for pelleting.so,yes this is almost right on time.
the little screw type splitter looks easy to build,may take a stab at one
if i ever find time that is.

Here on East Coast of Canada the wood piles are almost done and all the hardware stores have trailer loads of pellets arriving. Reminds me I better dust off the remote control for the heat pump.

6 weeks, the mower deck comes off.

Got filters and fluids for fall service when deck does come off.

Got $400 in pellet stove parts this morning, and hauled/stacked 2 tons of pellets. 3 or 4 more to go - used 6.5 ton each of last 2 winters.

Staghorn Sumac and berry canes are changing color.

I don't remember summer so short when I was a kid.....

TJ - what do you mean by "pelleting?" Wood pellets?

Making your own? From what? Capacity?

I think there is money to be made making pellets around here. We have a decent sized mill within 40 miles, but there are often shortages. We have several hard- and softwood sawmills nearby.

Would love to figure out a way to make some of our less-desirable hardwood into pellets. We also have ~100,000 acres of New York State softwood plantation lands within 40 miles of my house. Most is old Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) projects from the WWII era.

Much of the State CCC Reforestation land is Red Pine and Norway Spruce. The spruce is an exotic from Europe. Nobody really knows how long its good for, but its 80 years old now, and there are millions of BF of sawlogs,and so much little stuff in it. The Red pine is falling apart. Small Norway Spruce used to go to pulp, but that market is about gone around here. Without a good thin, the good spruce just languishes.

I'm a forester by education, so this kind of thing interests me very much. I used to cut 4' Norway Spruce pulpwood 25 years ago as a hobby in the winter - $48/cord, and as a kid we cut/burned 40 face cord of firewood for heat.
