There's another possibility. I have noticed that some people seem to think their job is to throw out words and then figuring out what they mean is everybody else's responsibility. It appears some people were never taught to think about what they are saying and make an effort to communicate rationally.

I recall a post on another forum that had literally two words in the title and two words in the post. Not particularly useful!

And then he was offended when people asked questions, trying to understand so we could help him. His second post was his last post and was also two words (which I will not repeat).

I have been a member of a certain car forum for 20yrs less a couple months. I knew absolutely zero about this specific type of classic car when I bought mine.

The help I rec'd over the last nearly 2 decades was enormous, BUT, I think anyways, I knew how to ask the right questions and go back with responses usually in an orderly fashion. If anything I was a bit long winded....at least in the beginning.

Being "new" does not necessarily mean you can't state your problem/issue in a clear and concise way.

I have ~8000 posts on this other forum and don';t ever remember getting flack or sarcasm back for anything I said.

So, all this to say, I agree with you and the OP certainly could've stated his problem (or even just the chain of events ) in a clearer manner.

I like to sometimes post "use more words" and "tell me what happened in chronological order" but some people (nowadays ESPECIALLY) seem to get overly offended by that, so I don't always say that too much !

Ain't that the truth. I was on a forum recently and the poster was trying to fix an issue ... threw out a bunch of things that could be the problem; many of which were potential issues, but there was also haphazard and vague use of words so it wasn't always clear what exactly they were talking about. But what was really missing was any sort of diagnostic process.

I decided to do things differently and not try do all of poster's work for them. So I tried using a quasi Socratic method to help guide the poster to developing a more systematic understanding. It didn't go anywhere. Fortunately, the poster was polite about their not understanding my attempts to help. I concluded I wasn't the right person to help and left the thread.

If you have it insured with someone other than KTAC, check on coverage with your insurer. Apparently KTAC doesn’t provide coverage. So long as it’s accidental, some equipment policies provide coverage for this type incident; some don’t. It’s expensive so it’s worth asking.

MANY years ago.......when I was a USN officer.......I received and sent militarily important messages.
The mantra was: .....assume every possible way that the recipient could possibly misinterpret the message.
Seems as though that concept is unknown in the civilian world.

What I often do is introduce redundancy into my words by expressing the same concept in multiple ways. I'll say it one way and then restate it using another set of words. I like to think this helps the reader or listener "triangulate" my intended meaning.

Yeah, I finally quit one auto forum (for a particular hobbyist vehicle) because I just got tired of too many idiots. People who could not or would not explain their problem reasonably, or wouldn't answer questions that were necessary to help troubleshoot, or worst, would argue with every suggested test. "Just tell me what part to replace!"

And then there were the kids who wanted to argue that because all their friends think [fill in the blank stupid idea] that they must be right and you stupid boomers are wrong.

It never occured to them that they are ALL wrong.
