The lower pulleys on my G4200 Hydro are loose. I have a parts manual I have been studying. The 2 pulleys come apart. The first pulley slides onto the pto, then a snap ring, then the second pto. This keeps the pulley assembly from sliding back and forth. My problem is that I can't slide the assembly onto the pto far enough to let me put the snap ring in the proper place. It's almost like the pto is 'sucked' back towards the mower deck. Any suggestions before I tear it down further?

The driven pullies are supposed to have some amount of "float" to them. (So they can self-align to the drive pullies by moving laterally on the splines.) This self-aligning minimizes the wear on the dual-belts. It is not an unusual design for a driven-pulley to have 'float' so it will self-align.

One can usually tell the design is supposed to 'float' because there are CLIPS instead of a nut which keeps the pully on the shaft. (A nut would be able to snug it down.)

As for the shaft getting 'sucked' back towards mower-deck.... I assume it was just fine until you removed the snapring and removed the pullies. It sounds as if something was not reassembled correctly. I am sure you will find it when you take it apart again.
