The parts sheet shows a pin should go into this nut, but there’s no part number listed to order it. I’m wondering if it broke off completely — it’s hard to tell from the photos.

The mower has been cutting grass for a few years like this, with the metal arm putting quite a bit of pressure on the top of the deck.

Anyone know if this piece is critical? Appreciate any insights!

Yes that is an important part for the mower (as far as I understand it).

that bracket is part of the frame (see below). It is interesting that the pin was screwed into the tractor. That may have been a repair? So there should be something on the opposite side of the tractor that serves the same purpose. I would see how that side is done.

The frame is $1300 dollars so I imagine that you can fix it for much cheaper than that. I would figure out the dimensions of the pin from the other side and make sure that would fit on the missing side. Then figure out the threads in the hole and have a new pin machined to screw into the existing threads. Put pin in and use a thread locking mechanism (pin it, weld it, clean it and use some locking compound).

Your dealer may or may not want to repair it. You may have to find a local mower repair shop that would be willing to do it or perhaps a machine shop would do it. You might be able to find a used frame

Had this all typed up and forgot to hit post!
