Hi, I'm looking at buying a used G1800. The owner says the HST doesn't work... I'm pretty mechanical and can figure out if it's a simple issue, but, worst case scenario-
1. Are reman or new units readily available, and what do they cost?

2. Are the units rebuildable and how expensive are the kits and are they readily available?

3. Is there another unit that interchanges that has a disengage lever to make transport easy??? What is it and how much for a new/reman.
I want the mower but if the transaxle is cost prohibitive, I'm gonna let it slide...

Thanks for any help/advice, Horace

The HST unit is the most expensive part on that mower/tractor and yes it's hard to work on.
Finding a rebuilt unit is going to be tough too.
I'm all about buying dead and broken equipment and fixing it, but If your not familiar with the HST systems it's best to pass on it. ;)

i know this is a old post.. but rebuilding that hst shouldnt be that difficult. most of the time it is the hydriolic motor that goes bad in them.. there shouldnt be within .001 of an inch clearence between the pistons and the case. its either that or the hydrolic pump. same. .001 of an inch.
