G1800 does not move as temp drops.

I have a 1993 G1800 with 450 hours. Last winter in our global warming cold ass winter, when it got really cold, when I would start it in the AM, I would hit the pedal to go and nothing would happen. I would go back, and reverse seemed to move, and would almost use rocking back and forth to get things going.

Summer finally came, and no problems. Worked fine all summer. I changed the HST oil, only use Super UDT, oil was clear, no junk on the drain. The other night temp dropped and could not go forward again. I Ould go backwards, and them forward worked. Dealers say it's the pump, because it would cost me 2k. I am not buying it. It should not be going backwards then. I have checked the adjust, ent on the pedal, and since it works in warm weather, it confirms it's correct.

I am stumped.

Help!

Thanks

It's got a bad seal in the hydro unit, but you can't rebuild them! :(
So yes your looking at a new or rebuilt hydro unit. ;)

Ok Wolfman, you win the prize that has defeated many. At least I know what's wrong. Any ideas where I can get a rebuild? Just out of curiosity, any idea which seal? I have noticed in my search, outs of G' with bad hydro's. I have a cab, blower, mower deck....I guess I'm kinda stuck?

Would you be willing to try a seal conditioner before losing all hope? I know this product works well in automatic transmissions where seals have hardened. I cant seem to share a link at this time but do a search on ATP AT205 Re Seal.
The best transmission snake oil i have ever seen. Works in hydraulics as well as engines. Wont fix a damaged part, but worth a try.

I would try a pyscic intervention with Dionne Warwick if it keeps me from spending 2k.

How is that going to play with Kuboat Super UDT?

Well it works with a complex fluid like atf, im suspecting it would be fine. Read label and im sure it refers to hydraulic systems.

Seal conditioner might do nothing at all.

I would think with the thicker fluid (cold) it would work and then stop as it heated up with a bad seal, but maybe the seal needs to heat up to swell and start working so a conditioner might help in that case.

I've never heard of a non-rebuildable pump. I know pumps with no spare parts exist, but never non-rebuildable. Nearly every part on a pump or tractor for that matter can be manufactured again, normally at high cost, but in the case of an entirely new pump, it might be cheaper to have new stuff made.

If the conditioner works, you might want to find a hydraulic pump specialty shop, some of them are pretty good at getting difficult to find parts for pumps back up and operating.

It could also be time to trade in the ol' workhorse for a 0% interest loan on a new one... :D

Fingers crossed! Hope it works for you.
A small price to pay if you ask me. I have a neighbor that has a leaking rear main seal, we trying the additive this weekend.if it Saves me having to pull engine, i'll pay for it.

Why can't you rebuild them?????? I have rebuilt a couple in the last 18 months. Kubota had all the parts I needed available for hydro's, PTO's and rear axles.

I talked to Messicks. They are local for me. They have done it before, but hate doing it because the labor exceeds the value. They too thought it was interesting that it could not be rebuilt. Question is, which seal. I guess I could figure it out.

I did do some reading on this additive and interestingly people who have credibility on YouTube with their own channels have used this for 20 years in hydraulics. At 8 bucks a bottle, I don't think I am going to hurt anything.

Looking at used Kubota's, most of the G1800's are for sale because of the problem. I wonder if the Orange Engineers have improved on this.

Yes, I could replace it, but it's 15k, and that is without the Sims Cab. Got the Blower, Muching Deck, Bagger, power blower. I would love the AWD, but for 1900 bucks, I just add more weight in the tires, although they say not to do it. I think I will.

TJ, ATP is in. What is interesting is that my next door neighbor was Army Ranger/Airborne. They used that stuff in the field when deployed. If the hydraulics want, motor blew a gasket, they would dump this in. He swears by this stuff. This morning it was 55 degree's, hit the gas and it took off. Still to early to tell, but there is a mechanic on You Tube, Scottie Kilmer, has his own channel He does a whole thing on this. Been using it for 20 years.

When I said can't, I really meant, most cant!
The tools and test equipment to set them up right can be rather expensive.

But hey here is a quick pic at what your dealing with, the front section will be where the problem is at.

They are a very simple Hydrostate to rebuild, only requires standard hand tools, a 5000 PSI gauge and a CLEAN work space. They hard part is R & R of the hydro from the unit, very labor intensive.

Excellent. I am not kidding. I have been chasing this for a year. Everyone said it was the pump. Kudo's to you my friend!

Unfortunately I have the knowledge. It's always about time. But at 1900 bucks. I will find it. Thanks!

What does your owner's manual say about a moderate speed idle for many minutes in cold weather? On my M7040, the manual says to idle for up to 30 minutes

My Toro zero turn does not work well at all until it is well warmed up in cold weather.
