I'm trying to figure out the belt tensioner(s) on my G 1900 with little success.

I can't get the idler/tensioner pulley to completely disengage despite adjusting spring lengths, bolt stops, greasing the zerk on the tensioner arm, etc.

The tensioner arm seems to have some play in it (it did actually contact the flywheel, with ensuing sparks prior to some adjustment), which leads me to believe the bushings are toast.

Any suggestions on where to get new bushings?

Barring that, anyone know what they are made of and some dimensions? I can probably make them myself with the correct information.

Thanks.

Raymond

Found the bushings, in stock @ a local dealer.

They aren't the problem.

The shaft on which they ride is badly worn, so now I go looking for that.

But, any tricks to removing the snap ring on the rear of the tensioner pulley? I can't get at it with 90* pliers or straight ones.

Never seen a 45* insert for snap ring pliers . . .

Seeing as how this thread is getting so much attention . . .

The new shaft & bushings are in place; the idler pulley is polished and deburred; the tensioner arm has been adjusted to avoid contact with the flywheel; and the thing runs pretty darn well considering I now have about $400 in the whole shootin' match.

Now, anyone have a lead on a spare parts mower . . . or a functional dynamo?

I need all sorts of goodies for this thing to keep it functional.

It only had 3770.8 hrs on the meter when I got it and after 2 hrs of mowing tonight, the meter hasn't moved one whit

Makes one wonder just how many hours are really on this old bag o' bones.
