Video came up as a suggested watch. Not a ham radio enthusiast, but once past that, found the demonstration on blade fuses interesting…

I know about 7 years ago GM will researching some vehicle fires and found one dealership buying HF fuses and using them in vehicle repairs. Found the 15 amp fuses took 42 amp before blowing! Needless to say that dealership bought a few burned vehicles from customers. I am cheap furgal and recycle fuses from the multiple chevy trucks fuse blocks, I have replaced(poor design and customer leaving cover off).

Great information on no-name fuses.
I have an assortment of no-name Amazon fuses that I am going to throw out, and get an assortment Bussman or littlefuse ATC fuses.

Oh, so Hazardous Freight fuses are like their feeler gauges? The numbers don't mean anything 😄

I just threw away my 'no name' fuse assortment from Amazon. Going to order in a Bussman kit and replace all the ones I put on my rear tractor fuse block project!
I have to laugh when I had to see this ham video on a tractor forum :)

Now I feel bad about everyone throwing their fuses out! I sometimes try to take everything I read or watch on the web with a grain of salt and try to come up with my own perspective…but quite often I find stuff where the poster is more knowledgeable….and has the proper tools and equipment to perform tasks that I cannot👋👋

Being a ham (Amateur Radio Operator)_ and an electronics guy, what I'd probably do if I had a 40 or 50 pack of those no-name fuses is sacrifice a few by testing at various current levels and see if any of them worked in a timely fashion or were like the authors (in that video) apparently made of "normal" wire encased in plastic.

I, too, am left wondering if any of the fuses I have are NFG, but I don't think I've ever purchased fuses on Amazon, eBay etc...only at local parts places.

TRust, but verify !

I've used a LOT of the 15A 'cheapies' in riders and they've ALWAYS blown as required ( shorted wires...etc).
VE9AA says the right thing, test a few
There are a couple of 'issues' with how he tested them though. His power supply did not 'mimic' a battery and 2nd test was a 10A fuse NOT another 5A fuse.

FYI (For Y'all's Information) After looking at a couple of sites, Amazon and Del City, for an assortment of fuses, I thought they were really high priced. Went to Digikey and ordered individual 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 amp ATO fouses, 10 of each, including shipping for $35 shipped.

For those thinking of "testing" a fuse out of the Chinesium assortment..... don't. Just don't put your faith in that. One 10a fuse could go at 11, or 7, or 20. But what about the rest? Do they all pop at the same current? Or all they all different? A lot different or a little?
Zero quality control. Zero faith. You get what you pay for.
I got a DM asking about the feeler gauges. Yeah, several of the fingers were the same thickness yet printed as different. You can trust but verify feelers, torque wrenches and sockets. You cannot do so with fuses.

I once had a brand new unopened similar package of those cheap fuses. Took them to my neighbor and assisted him with diagnosing and replacing a fuse in his travel trailer before he sold it. I left the package of fuses with him with only one missing…in case he needed another. Trailer sold, and I was going to ask him about the remainder of the pack. Never did…and think I will just leave it alone now….lol 😅😅
