New to Forum. Great to have access to all you guys and your experience.
I have a M8200 narrow orchard tractor. Recently had issues with starting when cold. Narrowed it down to the fuel lift pump, which would work if we tapped it when cold. I replaced it with an aftermarket pump. In replacing it, I noticed a fair bit of oil behind the pump, but figured it was probably normal due to the injection pump camshaft needing oil (??). The new lift pump seems better, but still occasionally sticks when its cold. I am now wondering if the oil is an issue. Also, I now have an oil leak where the fuel pump attaches to the block. The new pump came with 2 gaskets, but I only put one on. So, I have several questions:

Should I have put both gaskets on?

Is it normal to have oil behind that fuel lift pump? (with the pump off, oil just barely runs out of the engine)

Could the oil be the issue with the fuel pump problem?

Thanks!

Yes it should have oil behind it, because it's lubing the fuel cam.

Only one gasket.

Very very unlikely that the lift pump is "sticking".

If you still having hard start issues it's not the lift pump, it's either getting air into the fuel system, has a bad glow plug or plugs, or some other issue.

Think I would have purchased a genuine Kubota part. Lots of import pumps on Flea Bay and elsewhere and all are quality suspect.

Lift pumps don't usually fail as a rule.

It's rare for lift pump to fail. Most of the ones I've seen with trouble is caused by trash in the elbow that feeds into the pump.

Thanks for the info. I will check out the elbow on the old one -- odd that tapping the pump a few times always made it start.
