My 3940 Kubota tractor resides in my unheated barn. We`ve had COLD weather lately (minus 4 degrees) and while the tractor starts normally, the engine "kills" when I try to engage the trans--forward or reverse. I moved it into my heated shop and after sitting in 65 degree temps overnight,, it works fine. I suspect there is moisture that freezes, in the Hyd. fluid and that might be causing the problem---anyone ever had this problem in COLD weather? Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Paul

Here's what the operator's manual says, at -4 warm transmission 10-20 minutes. When you start to work the transmission with extreme cold fluid it's not moving much!

Only thing I would ask is how long since fluid was serviced?

Like Cat said, takes some warm-up. However in an unheated barn it sees big sways in temperatures, and when put away after working it can collect condensation inside the transmission, since it's vented to the atmosphere just like a fuel tank.

With consistent work at operating temperature, some water will evaporate, but if you get ice in there, you could have problems. Not as big a deal with a geared tractor, but an HST or GST can be a different story..

You have a seat switch issue, it's probably the seat was so cold or wet and would not engage the switch. ;)
