Hi all,
I bought this tractor last year to finish some home landscaping and it's been great.
The part of the job I needed the tractor for is done now so I've been posting it for sale locally. Of course when a guy came to see it, it ran perfect but I noticed some hydraulic fluid coming from the back of the front frame mounted hydraulic pump.

I go to raise the FEL bucket and the guy's wife says "It's leaking really bad". Understatement of the year, 'pouring out' would be accurate. So obviously, it needs a new seal around the shaft driving the pump, that's where everything is pouring out of.

My problem is, I've never taken the pump off. Looks easy enough, just 2 bolts holding it to the frame - or so I'd think. It wiggles but won't move forward. Is there something else holding the pump in place? It seems to be holding the shaft firmly since the whole thing wiggles when I pull on the pump.

So my somewhat stupid questions is, what else do I need to do to bring this into my local implement place for a rebuild?

Thanks, Jeff in Jefferson WI

You will have to disconnect the chain coupling so it can be pulled out.

I have never taken one apart but would assume that one link is a master link with a clip on one side that is removable (wear safety glasses and keep a rag over it-they like to fly away)

That chain wrapped around the shafts is a coupling - it has to come off. It's basically a piece of double link roller chain wrapped around 2 sprockets, one on the drive shaft and one on the pump shaft. You can remove the master link and remove the pump, if the hole in the frame is big enough. Otherwise you'll have to pull the coupling off the shaft first.
And, you'll probably need to remove the hydraulic lines first.

Edit, Russell is a faster typist.

In my experience not all chain flex couplings are made with master links like the one below.

When there is no master link the unit is intended to stay as a complete unit and to remove the pump you would need to focus on the set screw and rectangular metal key in the key way
