So, long story short, Kubota just wants me to keep throwing money at pulleys because my local dealer is clueless. They refuse to take back any pulley I buy for who knows what reason....But they are clueless at their jobs. Therefore, I'll ask some experts to identify my pulley. Like many Kubota add-ons, the identification plate is missing. My pulley sheared off while mowing: Please help!!! The pulley you will see in my pics is actually off of the other side of the tractor, and is still complete. The destroyed one would've given you nothing to look at....If it helps, it has 16 splines. All of the ones at kubota are supposedly "keyed." What gives?

That wouldn't surprise me in the least. What model is your deck, or do you know?

Your mower deck is an early 1980's MR6000 side discharge, they also made MR4800, went on to 7100 & 6100 HST's. What else do want to know?

Both the MR 4800 and the MR 6000 are side discharge. I have the manuals for both with the part schematic.

newdes@gmail.com
Also, does it list a part number for that outside pulley on the left side (if you're sitting on the tractor). I can't seem to find one online by using MR6000, and, as usual, my Kubota dealer is completely clueless.

They're both 3 blade mowers, the 4800 uses a smaller centre blade while the 6000 has 3 equal sized blades.

The online parts diagram for a MR4800 says it's part #7072133550.
The parts diagram for the MR6000 says it's part #7072034550.

No way to tell from diagram if it's splined or uses a key.
Best of luck.

p.s. Find another dealer!

Kubotasan,

I also think what you're dealing with is a MR6000. The correct pulley *should* be 70720-34550. Should cost ~$62.47 (Messick's). Looking at the parts diagram on the Kubota site, there isn't a key listed in the exploded diagram or the parts list. Hence why I *think* it's the correct one.

If one looks at the exploded diagrams for the MR4800, one finds a key listed. Also, if one enters the pulley part number for the MR4800 into the Messeck's site, a pic pops up showing a keyed pulley. This is why I don't think the MR4800 is correct, and why I think you have the MR6000.

Gearbox pulley lists two part numbers with only one part number being good. 70721-33550

On a deck that old, while you can still get them, you might strongly consider replacing all of them while you're at it. Also might as well also order a belt...

Lastly, happened to see these on ebay while searching and figured you might find them interesting. They came off a 60" deck... Here's the link:

I second the find another dealer or order from Messick's. I can't blame the dealer for not wanting to take special order parts back because they'll sit on their shelf forever. However, the one you've been dealing with sounds useless!

Good luck,

Steve

Thanks for the help, guys. I found the part number on Friday and ordered one from Coleman Equipment in Bonner Springs, KS. Yes, that's a plug for them, because they were SUPER helpful. My local dealer here in Cedar Rapids, IA, not at all helpful. When I hard a part number in hand and called "Steve" at the front desk, he acted all put off that HE had ordered the wrong part, wouldn't even look up a part price for me, and I quote, "I'll look later and call you back. *click*" What a jerk. Never called back, either. I'm not your run of the mill customer, I've been doing business, both personal and through my company, for years. I'll be buying parts from other dealers from now on. The wait time is horrible, Steve always acts like he is doing you a favor by doing his job, and they are just generally not helpful. If it weren't for "Cory" I would never shop there again. But, unfortunately, I always seem to get "Steve" when I call, not the good guy. End of rant.

The pulley just showed up moments ago, and it's the right one, so I thank you guys.

I take really good care of my deck, but I can't control the previous owner. It looks like on the new spindle, they are now double reinforced in the same place mine sheared off. Obviously they figured out the problem. I'll be ordering an extra or two just to have on the shelf. It got a new belt last year, and everything else is in good shape.

Thanks for the link. I might pick those up, but hope I'll never need to replace them! I've found it's always good to have some spares laying around!
