Dose any one know about these things? There is a fellow down in greene county that has one driven by PTO and it is amazing!!!! I saw it driving by and it was pretty neat, maybe not neat enough for me to look into buying, but hey one never knows when a good used one might turn up

One of the tree companies I sharpen chipper knives for has one. It's all automated and cuts the logs to length, splits them and piles the wood. I think you better save up because I asked the owner how much and he told me the base model (no frills, no conveyor, you add a chainsaw) was 20 grand. the one he bought was 50 grand.

he sells the wood but if I thought one would have to 'process a lot of wood' to make it work.

Skeets - there's quite a few guys have them here, and also an outfit hat made them.
I think the manufacturer has retired, and the owners are either firewood sellers, or maple syrup guys that run their pans with wood.
One guy I know with one for his OWB and syrup operation was saying they could do a facecord in 15 minutes, or something really short. Haven't seen his, but seems he has low-teens $$ tied up in it.

I guess if one had access to a bunch of trees you could make a lot of wood pretty quick. I was just thinking how to make things easier on an old man, that surely would do it! :D

There are so many types out there.
The shear and splitter are the cheapest, and pretty fast. But it crushes the wood too.
A buddy bought one,pto powered. Used was 5 grand. Does really well. Next year i think they will be spooling up and getting into some seroius cutting.

I built a simple bench and an old bale elevator to buck up my buddy’s firewood. Blocked up 2 cords in a couple days. I think it was more than 2 cords though.
Youtube redneck chopsaw. I have a couple versions and maybe 3 videos. I have nothing but time invested and my buddy’s chainsaw.

When i worked for conservation they bought a new one,$32,000.
Imho it was junk. Chinese parts assembled in canada. I had to make a few modifications so it was a little more user friendly. Still not great.

Skeets -
Frank brought up a very important part I omitted..... lots of variations and capacities.
I don't know enough about them, except for a few I've seen at auction, but some look much more efficient than others.
Some little ones looked like more trouble than I'd want to deal with .. didn't see them work, but I thought I could process quicker with my chainsaw.

I built one...

Although... Its not automated... I still have to cut the wood by hand... And it doesn't do any splitting.

But it gets the wood off the ground and I get exact lengths to maximize the firebox in the stove.

Thats where we started. A mitre bench. Buddy kept sawing through it.
We burn softwood up here and rarely that big.
Those blocks have too much gravity for my liking.
Tamarack thats well seasoned burns pretty clean and very hot.

I built one about 15 years ago At first I used my skidsteer for the hyd power and it would cut about 1 full cord an hour. 4x4x8. I then put an 18 hp motor on it and now it will cut maybe a half cord an hour. I was not after speed I wanted something to make the job easier. I can cut , split and pick the wood off with out bending over. I have a 16 foot elevator that I put on it and I load my dump trailer which sits in from of the woodshed. For me it is perfect . I burn 6 to 8 pulp cords a year and usually do this in 3 days or less depending how hard I want to work. Only time I have ever cut wood and not work up a sweat
