Want to buy a L3200 with front older and backhoe and rotto tiller attachments to start with.. And i am doing it as a sidejob kinda deal ... The thing is the wife not wanting me to do it. I keep telling her that there would be a lot of work available to pay for the tractor, I live in the city limits of Pittsburgh Pa. And I see a lot of people wanting gardens , swimming pools driveways snowplowing etc done. And with it being over half the size of a regular backhoe . I can get into the yards and smaller places a regular backhoe can't and without half the damage to the yards... Can you help me out by telling the wife and letting her read first hand that the work possibilities could be endless, greatly appreciated .... Chris

It's all a numbers game espically in today's market. Now more then ever people want more bang for their buck and are tight as hell with their money. I think alot of it has to do with the fact that people do have they money to spend on project's and are using the tough economy as a bullshit reason not to get up off the money. The key to being in business for yourself is to price you're jobs just right to where your not so high people aren't willing to pay your price. Or you're to low and your cutting your throat and not making a proffit. Also another key factor is now more then ever people are looking to make sure a contractor is licensed and insured. I have a buddy of mine who does tree work and when he's in a neighborhood working alot of neighbors walk up and the first thing they ask is if he is licensed and insured. So all in all the work is out there and you can make decent money on the side but as I said its all a game of numbers.

I think that you are going to realize that you are justifying buying the tractor by making money with it. I also think that your wife already realizes this. Simply put, it takes money to make money. The kind of work that you are talking about is going to do your tractor in real quick- there is a reason why so many different types of equipment are made, because different jobs demand a different level of equipment. No way is a Kubota tractor with a loader and backhoe going to do the same work, day in and day out, as a larger backhoe, a dozer, a track loader, a trackhoe, or a grader. And, people know whether you have enough equipment to do the job- if you use too little of a tractor for a given job, you not only tear up your equipment, you tear their property up more. A yard half tore up is still tore up. Do you see what I'm saying? You certainly can get in the business, and you can make it work; it is going to cost you more than you realize, though. The tractor, wear and tear, a truck and trailer to haul it, a dump truck sooner or later, insurance, liability, fuel- it takes money to make money. My opinion- you aren't going to make enough to pay for the tractor and all the other essentials unless you go at this full bore, and then, the tractor isn't going to be enough.

As much as I hate to bust a brother from the Burgs bubble I have to agree with hodge on this one. I don't know where your from, maybe the North Hills or South Hills, just remember theres a ton of other guys out there trying to do the same thing.
The first Bouta I ever saw work was when I needed a drain field put in, I don't know what Mdl it was but not much bigger than my BX. That little bugger worked great!! Dug a hole 5 feet deep 30x30 in less than 9 hours, but then his guy was retired had no time to worry about and did it as something to keep busy. He wasnt trying to make any money just cover his expence.
Can you make money and pay for the machine,,sure you can but like he said if ya aint got the ching up front makin it in the back is gona be really tuff. Just MHO you understand.
