Purchased a 2011 L3200 HST with 155 hours on it.
Outside of taking it off the trailer i didn't drive it much because it had the factory filters on it.
Changed all the fluids and filters.
I have included a picture of the filter. There was a lot of of metal shavings in the suction filter.
I'm worried that there is more metal floating around the HST system that the filter couldn't pick up.
Should I replace the suction filter again after a few more hours to see if anything else gets caught?
If I do that with the HST system at capacity fluid level will a lot of fluid start pouring out?
Finally I'm completely new to HST systems. Mine sounds very whinny when I'm driving...is that normal?

THAT AINT GOOD - 150+ hours and original filters????? mmmmmmmmmmm

Those shaving have been there a while!

Probably not - that filter has been worked hard!

Should I replace the suction filter again after a few more hours to see if anything else gets caught? HAVE you checked the screen filter - this is the one that you clean?

To change out the filter - if you have the new one ready will not loose a lot - maybe 6-8 oz tops.....what EVER you do - leave the dipstick IN!

WHINE? what whine???? The one thing that you will hear is whine...... now there is a fix ....but it will cost you a few $$$$ ........but your tractor will love you for it and you'll not hear the whine much after....

I believe all HST's were designed by a woman. Even when you're out getting seat time they never wanted you to be without a little whine!!! :D

The whine is probably just the normal HST whine ( Bulldog has a good take on it ), but it could be exaggerated by wear from not doing the first and second service on it. :(

I personally would pull the filter off and replace it about 20 hours more, it is highly unlikely, but if you do get more metal in there, your probably looking at a HST rebuild at some point.

I figured since Hokie had pretty much covered the bases I would poke just a little.

I agree with you Wolfman. Just for piece of mind I would change the filter again to see if the problem still exist. Since the oil and filter have been changed it should be clean unless it really has a problem. Those metal shavings and fine metal is why (in my opinion) the 50 hr service is the most important service of the tractors life.

I replaced the original fluid it with Super UDT2 (and you're right I didn't like the price) and its still makes the sound. Didn't know if that was normal.
Don't feel bad. I didn't notice any real difference in whine when changing fluid either. Some guys swear it's quieter but no dice for me. It's whiny, you don't get use to it you just deal with it.

Was SUDT2 available in 2011? The dealer confirmed that my 2016 L4060 comes from the factory with SUDT2. For the record, all machines sound better, run better, faster, stronger, smoother etc after an oil change!!!
