Hello all,

I am going to have to move a lot of dirt around my property. What are some options for a FEL/Bucket for an L185? Is it worth the effort to try to rig up something that isn't specific for the L185? (I see some locally for Fords or other tractors).

Appropriate loaders definitely exist but ots very unlikely to be easy for you to get one mounted unless you are a decent fabricator, or know one, or are willing to pay the going rate to hire one. A loader mounts to the tractor via a subframe and one would have to be fabricated or modified to mount a loader that came off a different brand of tractor.

An l185 is also a fairly small tractor which makes it more sensitive to the ‘sizing’ of the loader. Too large of one would make the tractor nearly useless, especially if 2wd. Another sticking point of mounting a loader intended for something else.

Even though an l185 with a loader is a cool tractor i wouldnt turn my nose up at, i would say odds are pretty good youd be money and frustration ahead to buy something with a loader already mounted, unless you just get a lucky deal or can handle the fabrication tasks yourself (willingly..).

If none of that is in the cards id say your ‘easy’ options for moving dirt with the tractor you have are a box blade or a 3pt scoop.

Thanks. I already have a box blade and a pond scoop. I can weld but I wouldn’t say I am a true fabricator. I was hoping to avoid getting another tractor, but it looks like that might be my best option.
