FEL and mowing...

So, I'm new to the Kubota family, buying my first one last week. A 2014 BX2370. I plan to use it as a mix between a mower and using the FEL around the property as we do a major addition/renovation.

So, my question is, do most people take the FEL off when mowing? Or just if they know they aren't going to need it for a while. Or do most people leave it on all the time? Just wondering how other people do this.

I always removed the FEL to mow. It only takes a few mins to do so and is much more maneuverable without the fel when mowing.

I leave mine on while mowing. It comes in handy to knock over the tall grass and the Piranah tooth bar rips out garbage trees with ease. I have a few ant hills and it is great for bringing destruction down on those buggers as well. Dig out the mound and dump it in the pond. Happy fish and frogs

I keep mine on. There are a couple of place that it gets in my way. I mostly keep it on as ballast for some of steeper areas. I also try to keep some weight on the back when mowing those steep areas.

I also use my FEL as often or more than my mower, that might change when I get things a bit more in order at the house.

I take/leave mine off when mowing. Too many trees and other obstacles to mow around. I can do it with the FEL on, but it's a PITA.

So, where does everyone buy diesel at? Locally, the most convenient place is Speedway gas stations, but I don't remember seeing the Cetane rating (how is that even pronounced??) or any other specs to know if it's "good stuff". Just wanting to make sure I get into Kubota-healthy habits.

Thanks,
Rich

FEL off. Just less to deal with and it is so simple to put on and take off...leaving it off is pointless unless you use it while mowing.

Just as everyone is saying, different circumstances will dictate whether you leave your FEL on, or take it off.

For me,
On when: I need to use it while mowing; not in a congested area.
Off when: No plans to use it while mowing; operating in tight quarters; one of my teenage boys wants to mow!

I take mine off when I mow, but I also use a rear 3 point mower. That increases the length quite a bit and hampers maneuverability. If you use a mid mount it wouldn't be a length issue. If you don't take it off you will find that you will be making wider passes around objects because you have to compensate for the longer front end. There is no right or wrong, just what works the best for you.
I purchase my diesel at my local gas station, usually when I fill up my vehicle. Since the diesel is quite fuel efficient I only usually fill up the tractor in the spring then purchase 5 gallon cans as needed...which isn't too often compared to gas.
The FEL comes off in about 1 minute once you get the hang of it. Just do it on the most level part of your property and you will be fine.
