My trans is losing oil and my crankcase is gaining oil, so I ordered a seal for the hydraulic pump and a couple of gaskets that came in on Wednesday. I've always pulled seals with screwdrivers and foul language, but looking on YouTube, it looks like a lot of folks are drilling a hole in the seal then threading a sheet metal screw into it and either prying on it, or pulling it with a slide hammer. What's your favorite method?

now I have to tell ya.....I like the screwdriver and the foul language .....the tough part is NOT using the same words more than once!!!!

IF I can get at it, the tool posted works well.
The hole and screw method works if you can't get a seal puller in there.
Verbal Lubrication is always helpful...

Looks like harbor freight has a similar one. I'll swing by and get it after work. Hokie, how do you get through disassembling anything without using the F work more than once? Thanks all.

usually is does not involve that word alone.......
it usually goes "you g d mo....fc'r....... you son of biscuit ......throw tool, get up, hit head, bleed, find bandaids after knocking stuff off the bench, fix cut on head, then try to remember WHERE you threw the tool!!!!
Now I dont throw....cost too much!!! Never costs to cuss!!!
Can't even get the gear off to get to the seal. I'm thinking someone used locktite. A 1/4" impact driver wouldn't get the nut off the front. I got that off with a bigger impact driver, but the gear won't budge.
If there is a shaft, then the screw method is preferred, as any seal removal tool may nick the shaft. I often use the screw method with a claw hammer or a wonderbar.
Shaft removed, then pry bar or heel bar. I have an adjustable heel bar that is my preferred seal popper. Being adjustable angle can be changed to gain access or improve leverage.

My favorite removal tool is FIRE. Only when it's feasible though. It works for removal of all kinds of stuff
J/K. Depends on the situation. Seal picks work, wood screw, screwdriver, hammer, chisel, fire, they all work but not every seal is the same thus each one of those methods is acceptable-depending on the situation.

I couldn't get the gear off, so I dropped the whole mess off at the shop. They've got a press and bearing pullers. I figured they may as well do the seal while they've got it anyway.
