F3060 Deck Problems

Long story short, I'm returning to a seasonal job, and our mower has been acting up - not enough that my boss wants to take it to the shop to get it fixed, but enough that he wants me (the resident mechanic) to take a look at it. I gave it a cursory look and am coming up with nothing. If it was my machine, I'd start taking the thing apart until I got a good sense of how things work and what might be wrong (kinda my method). However, given that this is NOT my machine, I think my boss would frown upon that.

So the mow deck raises about 50% of the time, and when it does, its VERY slow. In my quick look this afternoon, I didn't even find a dip stick or something to check if the hydraulic fluid is even full. Since the steering (which I believe is part of the same hydraulic system) works fine, as does the hydrostatic (though I wasn't sure that was the same system) my initial thought was that there is an air bubble in the line.

So... any info you guys can provide would be great. Thanks.

Do you happen to have an owners manual? I know on most of our tractors theres a sight glass that indicates how much fluid is in the tank. The fix could be as simple as topping off the hydraulic fluid or it could be time to change the fluid and replace the filter.

Nope... i got nothin. And I haven't been able to find anything other than parts diagrams online unless I want to pay for it (I/the boss don't want to). If I can figure out where to drain it, and get my hands on some filters, I may try to just replace fluids and filters today.

Next on my mind is find out the hours of operation on it and see if its doing to do a fluid change and replace the filter next. You can do this for a under 100 bucks.

Ok. I seem to remember it being around 850 hours, and I know it had its oil changed at 817 (only because they wrote it on the filter), but I wasn't able to see any date/hours on the hydraulic filter I'll see what I can find today, though I am pretty sure I already have a filter and ~1 gal of fluid. Any idea where the drain is located, and how much it takes?

Thanks for the help - August
