I have a l 3901 and when you turn the key to crank it does nothing you can hear something that sounds like he fuel pump but nothing else. The battery is good I put jumper cables on it still same, check seat switch, power take off , fuses and hydrostatic peddle nothing helps. Does anyone have a suggestion.
Thanks
Harold

Check for corrosion on the battery cables at both ends. Also check for tightness of the cables.

Based on what you are saying.....
It is still a safety switch that is not setting correctly.....
OR perhaps a faulty key switch (I doubt it:))
Or a starter problem (I doubt it too:))

Volt meter the main cable at the starter looking for battery voltage. Then try cranking the starter looking for the solenoid crank wire looking for voltage (usually no less than 1 volt less than battery voltage). If both are good, check to make sure the starter is tight or if equipped a ground strap is tight and in place. If all of that is okay then the starter is the culprit.

I am inclined to go along with a safety switch,, maybe the PTO switch or seat switch

I have a WSM which covers the L3901.

In the WSM is a chart for the "No Crank," condition.

On the far right of the chart are page references which walk you through each of the suggested diagnostic steps.

If you would like a copy of the WSM, send me a PM and include your email address.

If you need help performing the WSM suggested tests, I will help you through it.

All I ask is that you have or get a $10 12 volt test light.

What I have found is if you wiggle the forward and reverse pedal it will crack most of the time. Trying to see how to adjust it.
Thanks for all your help.

That safety switch can be a PITA sometimes:) There is an adjustment - sometimes it will involve a position control that pulls it back to the "neutral" middle position.

I have to do this on my L3901 too. Give it a good shaking.
I'm going to ask dealer when it goes for it's 400 hour service very soon.
