I just recently purchased a used Kubota L3940 HST with 360 hours. The owners manual says to use 10W-30 engine oil. The dealer said the oil used by Kubota was Valvoline. Do any of you have any suggestions for engine oil? Thank you.

I would use Kubota oil or an oil that is especially made for diesels. In your neck of the woods, a 10w would be fine - 10w30. I would use a synthetic oil. But a gas engine oil does not have the same stuff in it as a diesel oil. ANY of the major synthetic oil will be applicable.
And I agree with Wolfman......big can of worms.....not all oil is oil, however synthetic is mo' better than conventional oil. Performs better, pours better, and wears out less over heat and time than standard oil. And like most things, cost more too!!
Go down to Walmart and look at the diesel oil. Rotella, Delvac, Delo, etc. 15W-40 is the most common in my area.
Some people are unaware there are different ratings for oil used in gasoline engines and diesel engines. It does make a difference.

Excellent POINT! All oils have a slew of modifiers in them , some have a few more in certain areas than others, and GAS vs DIESEL have a several different sets of modifiers do to what combustion gases get thrown into the mix. I would say that a diesel has to place a hellva lot of strain on oil, the compression is so much higher, the force of the piston moving is greater and the small amounts of gases create a nasty place for oil to continue to do it's job! Never seen a diesel oil that had been used a while look brand new when drained!

Delo but because that's what I run in my StupidDuty. I change it much more often than recommended though. Lots of people run Rotella 5 or full synthetic 6.
