I have a G1900 with a diesel engine. Oil comes out of crank case vent. What can i do to stop it. It happens when the temperature gage goes out of the white zone.

check the oil level. If it's in between low and full, it's fine.

what kind of oil is in it?

are you positive that it's the correct dipstick? Drain, refill with 3.5 quarts. and check it. Should be right at the full mark.

if the engine has any blowby, it'll also do the same thing-oil will come out of the vent. Nothing you can do but fix the source of blowby, usually worn cylinder(s) and piston(s)/Ring(s) is the culprit. You can do a compression test. Look for about 450-550 psi and should be even across all 3 cylinders. If the center cylinder is weaker than the front and rear, it may have been overheated in the past, and/or has possibly had starting fluid used which can bend the connecting rod and/or break the piston ring land.

My dad had the same mower. Ran it out of fuel, couldn't get it to start, to he hit it with a little spritz of ether. Ran all season. I go get it for offseason maintenance and found blowby. Compression test 490-370-500. Center cylinder piston ring land broken. Had to put a piston and rings in it. Runs great now.

If the compression was the problem I would have a problem starting, but it starts great. I will check the compression. What i don't like is the cooling fan sucks in dirt and plugs the radiator. I keep the radiator clean and blow it out with air every time i start to mow. I wish the cooling would have a better cleaning system and not be under the steering wheel. I bought this machine new 25 years ago, it has 1060 hours on it. Could it be a carbon Build up issue

The cover under the steering wheel and the mesh behind the radiator are fitted?

I use 10w30 diesel grade oil. I want to mention that when i first bought the mower i used straight 30 weight oil at about 500 hrs oil came out of the crank case vent. like most of us what's a manual. I called the dealer and was told no no use 10w30 and i did. the oil stopped coming out of the crank case vent. Needless to say the problem is back.
