I am new here, and wander if I could get some help? I recently bought my first tractor, L185DT, and without the key on the charge light is still lit. My wiring harness, looks old, melted and brittle. Any suggestion on wiring harness or the issue?

The first thing I would do is try unplugging the alternator, and see what happens .Does the oil light come on when you turn the switch on.

Lance, I have not tried anything as of yet, other than looking over the condition of the wiring harness. It is bad shape, but have been unable to locate the one I need on-line. I'll give the alternator a try when I get home.
