I own a small orange tractor and a big green tractor and now thinking of replacing the green one with orange. I need a 4WD 70-75 hp. I've looked into the M7060 and it seems very nice, but not sure I can afford new. Can you orange experts guide me to previous 70-ish hp models of the past that would be good to look for? I make a small amount of hay, lots of rotary mower work, FEL essential.

I'd suggest looking on line, your local tractor dealer, social media, etc. and you'll soon see that any size good used tractors for a reasonable price are rare as hens teeth. They're out there but when found, have your truck and trailer gassed up and a sack of cash ready to go at a moments notice. I wouldn't sell the green one until its replacement is in the shed, you could end up with only the a small orange one. By going with new you'll get exactly what you want/need. Wanting and needing is a whole different topic. Good luck

I'd tend to start here: https://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/tractor-brands/kubota/kubota-tractors.html

General rule is that most Kubota tractors are pretty good. I'd be guessing you're going to look one model back than current generation, but that puts you 2000-2010-ish, and those tractors will be the pre-DPF models. Rumour has it that they're very popular, so prices are holding really well - there are a set of people who really don't like the DPF stuff. A good low hour machine will cost not much less than a new machine.

Going back into late 1990s is possible, but in this size machine low hours aren't that likely. They're not bad machines, Dad had I think an M6970 or 6950 or something around that size. It was a good machine, not necessarily a cheap machine.

At the risk of opening a whole different thread, you could look at Kioti - that's what Dad ended up replacing his Kubota with and he's very happy with it. And you probably should ask yourself whether there's really anything wrong with your green tractor. Now is a really bad time to be buying machinery if you don't need it, in a year or so things should have settled back to normal. Arguably right now you'd get a great price for your green machine, but you'll pay more over the odds for the Kubota than you get paid over the odds for the green.

Having said all that, an M7030 looks all right. http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/001/3/2/1323-kubota-m7030.html. Looks like you could pay well less than $10K. https://www.tractorhouse.com/listin...o-99-hp/manufacturer/kubota/model-group/m7030

A generation newer gets you an M7040, also looks good (and if you need more HP then the 8540). Looks like you'd pay most of $40K. https://www.tractorhouse.com/listin...ractors/manufacturer/kubota/model-group/m7040

I appreciate the thoughts. My JD 2030 is broken down right now. The clutch doesn't seem to be working and I think the PTO is in trouble, too. I need to look into it more, but I'm afraid it's a big repair. I can probably limp along without the machine until next year, but it never hurts to become familiar with likely models.
