The post about winter started me thinking about leaves and I get a ton of them, would make good compost, so I was wondering. Would the blades on my 60 inch deck have enough lift to blow leaves that would be kinda mulched, through an 8 inch hose in to a box built on the 3pt carry all. I know its silly but hey it could work

Check and see if high lift blades are available. Will need a screen of sorts to allow air out of the box. A cyclone and a blower would be your best bet. I had one connected to my wood chipper, fills the plastic tote easily.

If it did work, you probably wouldn't see one of the most popular attachments as a bagging trailer with a vacuum motor on it.

Leaves need good suction to avoid clogging up ribbed piping. I have a three horse dust collector in my shop and it handles ribbed hose because its powerful. Try to suck over the same lengths of hose with a ShopVac and you end up with log jammed hose. Even with up-lift blades, you don't get much more than centripetal force on the bits coming out of the exhaust chute. You need good vacuum. Plus, the steel vacuum fan serves as another "muncher" to make the bits smaller.

This is a unit I fabbed up in the early 90's to make my fall clean-up easier. It folded up and rolled on casters for storage. The blower I made was 4" x 22" and ran at 1000 rpms. The leaves would be so packed into the box that I would have to hack them out with a garden rake. Picture (without mower attached) is from when I sold it a few years back after I bought a smaller machine with bagger.
