I recently bought an L2550 with a bad clutch. We have it apart and are having trouble putting it back together. Any suggestions for aligning the dual clutch? Or any other learning's others have would be helpful also. Thanks in advance for your help.
Randy, Glad your Here!I've never done a dual clutch before but, I've done a raceing setup in a street racer a few times. Short of having the correct alignment tool I have used an old input shaft, a handle from an industrial push broom cut down and sharpened to a point, a hammer handle, etc. all with varying levels of success. Maybe some of the true tractor techs will chime in on this and enlighten us all. If not, maybe the broom handle?
you will need a dummy shaft with 3 different diameter steps on it, smallest to fit inside the the spigot bearing next size up for the drive plate and finally the pto plate.you should be able to rent or buy a "clutch alignment tool" or even turn one out of wood if you have the facilities.
I have not seen the setup for your tractor but all the two plate clutches ive worked on,you have to screw bolts through the cover plate to stop everything flying apart before you undo the six retaining bolts to drop it all from the F/w
