I’m in the process of replacing the rings in my 2004 RTV. Ive seen it mentioned doing it in the chassis. My question is how do I get the pan off? Do I have to cut the cross bars off that hold the skid plate? The darn thing is trapped in there but I’ve heard several people clams it’s doable....help...

Is it possible the pan can be removed from some models while in the chassis but not yours? I know that's the case with many cars. Cutting things underneath makes putting them back sound like more work than just pulling the block, but maybe not.

Oh yes I've done them.

You have two options. Remove the engine/transmission from the RTV and then do it on the bench. Option #2, cut the crossmember out and re-weld it back in so the skid plate can go back on. Or leave the skid plate off, but that oil pan is subject to dings/dents/etc without it.

I've had customers ask me to remove the engine to do it and I've had them say cut it and save me $$$!!

Pulling the engine/trans/subframe assembly out is a long tedious process on these. NOTHING like a car, twice as complicated as any car I've ever worked on (though I haven't dealt too much with later model transverse-mounted FWD stuff).
