Hello Forum
I have a k008 excavator, when shutting off the engine with the ignition, the engine wa still running. I had to close the fuel valve to shut off. But now it is not starting at all, like the battery is dead, but battery is fully charged.
Thx

OK, just to start off with some thoughts...

Normally the engine shuts off when the key is turned off, right? This indicates there is an electrically operated fuel shut off solenoid, or whatever the correct term is.

Now the engine will not crank over, correct? And the battery is fully charged and not dead.

So the likely issue is an electrical problem. Like a blown fuse, perhaps caused by a shorted wire, or whatever.

Bad ground connection or blown master fuse. Locations unknown on excavators.

Diesels don't have ignition. Compression start so it has to have a fuel cut solenoid somewhere on the engine, probably close to the pump

The K008 has the same D722 engine as the bx18xx. There is a solenoid cut off that didn’t work. Probably an electrical problem. It’s unlikely 2 problems happened at the same time, so likely that the same problem causes the lack of shutdown and lack of restart, both electrical. Sounds like main fuse blown. I would pull out an electrical meter and a wiring diagram, follow the voltage. If it not a fuse, check connectors, particularly to the key switch. It needs voltage to activate the cutoff.

Next time this happens manually cut off the fuel pump by pulling the cutoff lever at the fuel pump instead of shutting of the fuel valve. The bx manual says to do this when this happens I’m sure the k008 manual says the same thing. cutting off the fuel valve might require priming to get it going again.

Thanks for replies.
Checked all electrical conns, main fuse was blown. Replaced that, It can start now, but still engine is not stopping when key is off. key switch connections are all good.
Replace the selenoid? this machine has only 38 hrs on it.

Is it under warranty? If it is, make it the dealers problem.

Well maybe there was 2 problems after all. There are 2 electrical things that can cause the solenoid to not fire. The solenoid itself as you suspect, or the timer module that drives it. When you turn the key off, the timer fires and activates the solenoid for about 10 seconds. That could be the broken thing too, or the wiring to it. The delayed click you hear after shutdown is the timer releasing/de-energizing the solenoid. I don’t know where the timer is mounted on a K008, on a bx is under the dash, but easy to get to. If you have a meter, you can figure out which thing is bad, pull the connector on the solenoid, turn the switch from on, to off, the timer will active the solenoid, you’ll see 12 volts or so, for 10 seconds. You don’t have to start to run the test. Just switch off to on to off.
