Did I mention I hate bears. Like bears are right there with Nancy Pelosi. This spring I had a 400 lber out here a couple times. I take in the bird seed and sewit every night. Put it back out every morning. A pain in the ass. But I love hearing and seeing all the different types of birds. Our winters are long and feeding the birds is a enjoyment for me seeing the summer birds.
But last weekend another bear showed up 8pm. I was just heading out the door to bring in the feeders. I grabbed a roman candle and ten flaming exploding balls later he was gone across the field.
The ten minutes later he was back. I grabbed a rife and shot right infront of him, dirt flying up in his face clearly. He left..
This morning on one of my camera. Hes back of course.

Yes I went out one fine morning to find the bird feeder down and a bit scuffed up but not busted. And there in the mud was a pug mark about the size of my hand. My area is not noted for bears but we do get them passing through out of WWVa. And while I have never seen one around here I know they pass through

They are nothing but a PIA. My daughter happed to be here the other night when it was on the deck. I leave a .30-06 loaded in the bedroom incase the 400 lber ever wanted in. If my daughter wasn't here. Mr.Bear would of been in the Kubota bucket going for a ride down back. But I'm not going to have my daughter know I broke the law. He luck will run out soon should he come back on the right day.

Coincidentally, I just had to rethink my bird feeder situation. I never had a bird feeder until this year. I have a feeder on a shepherd's hook. The miniature bears around here, raccoons, have either figured out how to climb the pole or shake the pole. I would fill up the feeder only to find it empty the next day. I ditched the pole and strung a wire from the branch of a tree to hang the feeder. We shall see how well that works.

I can imagine having bears would be a colossal pain.

If you call the warden will they trap and relocate?

Grease the bottom 3ft of the shepherds hook with vaseline. Then sit somewhere with a camera to video the entertainment. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 they will start up the pole then slide back down. Course the bottom of there paws are then greasy so then crud starts sticking to them. So then they walk funny till they work the vaseline off there paws.

We had an enterprising squirrell that would get into the one on the edge of our flower bed. I got fed up and greased the pole. My neighbor got endless entertainment out of it watching the squirrels 😁😁😁😁😁

I have done business with several maine game wardens over the last ten years(the same ones you see on Northwoods laws) and have talked to them about bears and relocating. I'm told they no longer relocate. Its my issue feeding the birds. One did tell me if they are destroying my property them I have the right to 'pop' him. But call the warden I know and tell him to limit getting in trouble. So. I take the feeders in. And carry a sidearm when I'm outside.

It is similar in NH. Deer are an issue here as well. In NH, they will want you to put up a fence first to see if you can change their pattern - LOL. Then after more damage, they will issue you a few tags to solve the problem.

I have a client with an orchard and he gets 20 "extra" tags that can be used year round on his property for deer/bear.
