So I pulled my snowblower off my BX2360 today and was nosing around underneath it and noticed the rubber boot at the HST fan is pretty much gone.

I am having my dealer pick it up next week to do the 400 hour service and am wondering what kind of money he’s going to ask to fix that - or if it’s even necessary.

I usually do my own service stuff but since it already had 200 hours on it when I bought it and I don‘t know what the prior owner did or didn’t do I figured I’d let the dealer give a once over.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

No easy way to fix that - the rubber there was bad from the get go.

There was a person on here that actually designed and made a split boot that went there. I got one from him and it worked perfectly. There are two boots actually - both end.

The install of those was a little fun too - about 8 smallllll bolts and nuts placed through the two halves.

I am curious what the dealer will charge to fix that.

I think the shaft needs removed, the joint cleaned, inspected, regreased and then replace the boot. Too much run time has elapsed since the boot failed, judging by the grime.

The quality of the rubber that Kubota uses is poor, so don't expect the next one to last very long. The service manual has you removing the engine to replace the boot or the hydrostatic fan, but I found a youtube video that showed how to do it by removing the floor pan and moving the shaft to the 2 o'clock position. I had to replace both the fan and the boots on my tractor. If you have patience and the correct tools, it isn't a difficult job. If you are a person short on patience, then let the dealership do it for you. My guess is that they will hit you up for at least 4 hours to do it. More if you have a cab that needs to be removed.

There's probably a way to make a homemade one.

But I'd be concerned with balance being off, and damaging bearings with the RPM that shaft is turning.

I'm thinking of pulling the snowblower off my BX2360 tomorrow....bet your a$$ I'll be looking at mine as well.... ;)

wait until you break a fan blade off then just fix both at once, wouldnt waste your time with it now. Not a fun repair, but a rite of passage for BX.

Iv'e done quit a few. 3 hours or so average. I've done them quicker but on tractors that don't have a loader and/or backhoe. Take the engine off, easier (to me) than trying to fiddle around with getting the shaft off far enough to get access. This is particularly true if you have a good lifting device, say, a cherry picker, forklift, another tractor, couple muscled up high school football players you don't like, whatever.
