In my olden days in college, it seemed that all the math was imaginary. It did not seem to make any sense until it was applied in engineering courses. The exception to that was Calculus II. The professor had us try to find where to put the leg and balance, a one legged table that had the shape of a half parabola. And on a test, the bonus problem was to determine the volume lost of a 6ft sphere sitting on the ground after an alien space ship had fired a disintegrating ray that would destroy everything above 5ft from the ground.
