Working on an old light tower for someone that is powered by Kubota D950 engine. I put a new battery in it and now it won't crank. It cranked over before but wouldn't fire before battery died. Battery charged and tested bad. New battery in and now nothing. Not even clicking.
I have tested starter. Solenoid picks up and bendix turns. When the ignition is on there is voltage at one terminal of a Nason switch but not through it. Don't know if that is relevant or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you connect the battery up correctly?

There is no normal reason it shouldn't crank.

Can you jump it to the solenoid (small wire or terminal) and get it to crank?

I have been working on electronics for over 50 years...not sure what a "Nason" switch is. After looking it up, I realized it is just a brand-name.

In any case, the starter circuit is pretty simple.

Batter MINUS should be cabled directly to engine block.

Battery PLUS should have TWO wires on it.
1) large wire directly to starter
2) Smaller wire which powers the electrical system including the starter solenoid 'pick' line. (This often has a fuse on it to protect the electrical system)

NOTE: on some hookups, the smaller wire is connected to the STARTER end of the larger starter wire.

Like previous poster suggested, you should be able to 'jumper' battery PLUS to the small wire on the starter and the engine better crank.
