Hi all. New to forum. Searched but couldn't find an answer. I have a D722 in a Club Car UTV I got at an auction. Have changed all filters and fluids. It is hard to start when it's cool or cold and lopes at idle. Tested and got 12 vdc to glow plug connections. Roll it over for a period and it eventually starts and as it warms up, starts readily. Blows some of smoke (fuel it looks like) on initial start. Runs great, just hard on the starter motor. Thanx in advance for any guidance in this matter. tgh3fan Forgot to mention, 2200+ hours.

Did you check the resistance of each glow plug to make certain they are good? Sounds like the GPs might not be functioning.

No I did not. What ohm value should I see? Thanx. Didn't even think about that.

Pull the glow plugs and do a compression test, because normally even with bad glow plugs once fired it should run smooth.
low compression or bad injectors are more likely for hard start and smoking.
How is the valve cover blow by?
If the glow plugs checkout and the compression checks out, pull the injectors and have them tested. ;)

Do as others have said.....

if/when you test glow plugs - looking for a reading of something close to 1 ohm, very little resistance - you don't need to pull them to do a electrical test, take connection off top - and measure each one.

I too have feeling one or more of the cylinders is low on compression.

Thanx guys. Will test glow plugs and do compression test tonight after work. I agree with y'all. I'm leaning toward injectors myself. Had a similar issue with my old tractor and it was the injectors. Runs well after it warms up tho. Will post the results for future reference.
