Cutting Down a 3 point blade

I bought a rear blade sight unseen (pretty cheap) and had a friend pick it up for me as he was heading that direction (2 hours away). The problem is the guy told me it was a 5 foot blade and when it got to my place it had grown to a 7 foot blade. I was only wanting a 4 or 5 foot blade to start with. This 7 foot blade is too big for my B7100. It does fit on the 3 point, I measured, but I haven't tried to lift it.

It is in fair condition, but would there be any problems if I took a cutting torch or plasma cutter and took 1.5 feet of each side? I tried to sell it, but haven't had much interest.

Anybody do this?

NOPE I don't see a problem with it. A few members on here have custom made their own rear blades from scratch too.

I agree with Eric. When I was shopping for a blade for my B7100, almost all of them were 6 or 7 foot blades. So, my plan was to cut one down. I did find a 4 foot, but I would have cut a larger one down to about 4 1/2 feet.
Saying that, you tractor will lift a 7 foot blade. It won't grade much, but it will lift it. Before I found my 4', I used my dad's 6 foot blade, which the tractor would easily lift, and would pull unless I had too much gravel accumulated. Snow, it worked fine.

On the flip side you could save the end pieces and make box wings for the shorter plow to accumulate and move more snow.

Thanks I put it up on Craigslist for sale or trade. I am working on two deals. One person wants to trade a smaller nicer blade and another one wants to buy it. I think the trade would work out better, I hope. He was the first one to respond. Always keeping my options open.

If not, fire up the torch!

I was able to find a guy who was willing to make a trade. He was happy with the blade and I was happy too! The blade I traded for is much lighter, but it fits my tractor very well. It is a 6 foot blade, but I moved snow, rock, firewood and limb piles all with it today. It was fun. I did get a kink in my neck, but it was well worth it.

Well atleast now you can add a suitable amount of weight to the blade for working the snow. Looks good!
