Hello All,

While I have owned a few red tractors in the past, this new "old" orange B7100 4x4 gear trans has me stumped. While trying to mow my lawn using a woods 4 wheel caster 3pt 60" deck the tractor will slow down the deck will almost stop when i reach a very slight incline. and I mean slight, maybe a 18" rise in 60ft. going down hill does not seem to affect it. I do believe the hyd fluid may need changed, it's white which I believe indicates moisture that has entered the system. is that assumption correct? it appears the level is high as well. I noticed the shifter boot was badly torn, probably the entry point for rain , etc. where is the drain to remove the fluid and where is the strainer/filter? I think that the tractor should handle the mower so I'm confused as to why the engine and pto slow so much. Can someone help me please? thanks so much for being here as a group, sometimes it's hard to figure these things out alone.

thx Kytim

If your hydro fluid is grey/white....it is probably contaminated with H2O. Is your coolant low also?

where is the drain to remove the fluid and where is the strainer/filter?

On my L2250 the hydro filter is to the left of the oil filter and the drain is same side under the differental housing.

Kytim,
Is your B7100 Hydrostatic or Gear Trans? You mentioned the shift lever boot being torn! Obviously any H2O in the trans case is not a good thing However I have seen some specialty lubes that appear milky in color right out of the can! If your tractor is Gear trans it sounds like a worn out clutch! If it is Hydro I'm afraid I can't be of much help! in any case I would change the trans oil and get that torn boot repaired!

Sorry, I had brain gas, you mention in the first line of your post that it's a gear trans so I'd deffinately look for a worn out clutch! does it pull ok going up a steep hill without the mower or using a ground engaging attachment like a box blade, plow, or pulling a loaded trailer? if the answer is no then all point to the clutch!

When I use the grader blade I never notice any problem, that is until I hang a corner of the blade on something immovable, ha ha. even then it will usually spin a tire or two.

Yes it is a gear trans, is there some adjustment that could be made to the pedal for freeplay and clearence??

thx, tim

Kytim,
OK so if using a grader blade and it hangs up the tractor will spin the wheels!(however I am concerned about your use of the word "usually") as the correct answer to eliminate the clutch from suspicion would be "allways spins the wheels or kills the engine". My B7100 using my 4ft bush hog will kill the engine in a heartbeat if I run over a hump without raising the lift and the blades dig into the ground. You may want to look at the mower is it scalping when this occurs? Or perhaps you mowed over some vine like material that got wrapped around the spindles and is putting excess load on the tractor. you might even check to make sure the PTO shaft isn't binding at the angle the tractor is in when this occurs!
